She just wants the money
Money is Yetundey’s latest single (Release 21.06). It is so far her closest track to mainstream Pop. Thematically related to her song “Big City Life” from her EP “See No Evil”, “Money” narrates the journey of an ambitious young girl who “at 18 she already has no dreams but living a luxurious life” and works hard to achieve this goal.
“All her life she waits for the moment to come when she finally moves on.”
Far from being judgemental, Yetundey insists on the character’s good nature, “she is not heartless”. She goes shopping in Paris, yes, and at the same time, she sends cheques to charity every month. The character described in Money is not the greedy, power hungry type, nor does she get corrupted by the money and the “bling-bling”.
A vicious cycle, money is a drug
In Money, Yetundey lays the focus on the hidden side of the “bling-bling” and success. Yetundey places side by side, the choices and sacrifices made in order to attain the goal of becoming rich. She ends up living in opulence but alone.
The young girl whose dream it was to “reach the top of ladder” is “empty at 43”. Even with the luxuries worthy of a queen, she is not able to dream beyond that one wish of financial independence. The question might be, once the dream has been lived and the goal reached, and there is nothing left to dream about, what are you left with?
“She’s a burnt out old witch
Left with only one wish”
