“Tropical Storm” is as hot as the desert and as refreshing as its title.
This single introduces a Yetundey flirting with mainstream Pop. While one might expect the music to reflect the force and violence of a tropical storm, on the contrary, Yetundey places us in the eye of the cyclone from where we watch the storm rage.
The music video of the single “Tropical Storm” juxtaposes the sensuality and lust sung on the inside with the harsh reality represented by the dancers set in bare concrete halls. The dance was self-choreographed by Yetundey. She chose to tell a story of seduction, love and passion. A very sober version of the ups and downs, push and pulls one can experience during an emotional tropical storm. The vulnerability of the woman is the focus here –just count the number of times she is seen laying on the floor. Yet her energy and ability to rebound show that –be it tropical or polar – no storm can suppress the strength of a woman. Nonetheless the electric moment at the very end of the video offers a happy ending: both tired of the dance, they lie down and accept their vulnerability, and so love becomes a true possibility.

Die fast gehauchten Verses der Rapperin sprechen von Lust und Leidenschaft. Sind ihre Worte auch ein „Tropical Storm“, so stehen diese im Kontrast zu Instrumental und Hook: In ihrer Reduziertheit und Melodiösität gleichen diese fast der Ruhe im Auge des Zyklons.
Auch im zugehörigen Musikvideo geht es um Kontraste, um Nähe und Distanz, um den ganz besonderen Magnetismus zwischen zwei Menschen im Verhältnis zur düsteren Außenwelt. Diese wird hier durch eine verlassene Industriehalle symbolisiert. Die Choreografie zu „Tropical Storm“ hat Yetundey selbst entwickelt: In ihrem Fokus stehen tiefe Leidenschaft ebenso wie Verletzlichkeit. Die beiden Tänzer zeichnen die Höhen und Tiefen eines emotionalen „Tropical Storms“ nach, und finden schließlich ihr Happy End, indem sie ihre eigene Verletzlichkeit gemeinsam akzeptieren.
